Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Japanese and Australian Wagyu?
Japanese Wagyu is graded A1–A5 with a Beef Marbling Score (BMS) of 1–12; A5 is the top grade at BMS 8–12. Australian Wagyu is crossbred from Japanese genetics and graded by BMS alone, sold in label tiers: Green (BMS 4/5), Silver (6/7), Gold (8/9), Blue (9+). Japanese Wagyu is richer and more intensely marbled. Australian Wagyu has cleaner beef flavor and costs less per ounce.
Is Ligma Provisions Wagyu Halal certified?
All Australian Wagyu at Ligma Provisions is Halal certified with full chain-of-custody documentation. Japanese Wagyu is not Halal certified.
Where does Ligma Provisions ship?
We ship to the continental United States. Orders ship frozen with dry ice in a reusable insulated box. Some thawing in transit is normal and does not affect quality.
What grade of Wagyu should a first-time buyer choose?
Start with Australian Wagyu Green Label (BMS 4/5) or Silver Label (BMS 6/7). Both have more marbling than USDA Prime without the intense richness of A5 Japanese Wagyu, which many first-time buyers find overwhelming.
Does Ligma Provisions cut its own steaks?
Yes. Every steak is hand-portioned by our butchers in a USDA-approved facility. We do not resell factory-cut or pre-portioned steaks.
